VirtualBox - система виртуализации, аналогичная VMware Workstation и MS Virtual PC. Поддерживает динамическую трансляцию - выполнение большей части инструкций гостевой ОС производится на реальном оборудовании. В роли гостевой системы могут выступать Windows, GNU/Linux, BSD и другие операционные системы. Плюсы: компактность, бесплатность, поддержка образов VMware, высокая производительность. Довольно существенный минус: нет возможности посредством drag'n'drop - т.е. схватил и перетащил - переносить файлы на виртуальную машину (придется использовать NAT соединение). очень хорошая и шустрая "машинка" бегает на
Celeron D 420 + 2Gb mem + Debian Lenny и еще лучше на Core2Duo + 4Gb mem + Debian Lenny однако нигде не могу найти информацию (если она существует возможно ли запускать в VirtualBox гостевую систему с физического диска. так было раньше в VMware Особенности запуска ОС с физического диска |

Еще c 1.6 какой-то можно. Для физического диска надо создать vmdk-файл.
Посмотри в help'е "Advanced Topics"-"Using a raw host hard disk from a guest" Работает также и с дисками, подключенными через USB-корзину, флэшку так подключить не пробовал, загрузки с USB-устройств действительно нет. |

Круто даже виндовый загрузчик пошел, только зависла она такая плохая винда если запускаться реально с диска, то все корошо. в чем может быть беда? |

Ну это как переставить диск в другой комп с другой системкой, видюшкой и прочим. В системе установлены драйвера на некоторые (скорее всего почти все) устройства, которых нет в виртуалке. С другой стороны нет драйверов на устройства, которые присутствуют.
Может даже ядро потребоваться другое. |

Подскажите пожалуйста как заставить стартовать гостевую машину вместе с запуском windows? Virtualbox стоит на Windows XP, а виртуальная машина Windows 2003 server. |

flinks, может оно параметром коммандной строки умеет понимать машину? Поищи в справке, возможно есть ещё какие ключи.
